they are in final preparation for the presidential debate, president obama and mitt romney are going to see the first one right here on wednesday. that debate is coming. and you're going to see where they are in the process of preparing in just a moment. the debates and the election, of course, are serious. and that would be our first story. serious. until we discovered this video, stunning video shot from the helmet of a u.s. soldier, it seems like a video game. but this is not xbox which you're about to see. it is real. the pentagon is telling us it happened, it happened in afghanistan in april. afghanistan is a place we have not heard these candidates talk about much, have we? nothing from romney during the republican convention, very little from obama, especially at the u.n. this last week. the debates will likely be a different story because this weekend the death toll for americans in the war surpassed the 2000 mark. the soldier who made the helmet cam video suffered only minor wounds and has returned to duty. but it's amazing that he suffered only minor wounds when you see thi

after what mitt romney said during the debate coming right out and saying that he was dishonest. take a listen. >> i'm not going to take away from mitt's masterful thee at trickle performance. he did a superb acting job. you know, he did everything but learn tap dance. >> i think he was dishonest, absolutely, when he said he never proposed $5 trillion in tax cuts. that was dishonest. he said on the broadcast to 70 million americans, i will repeal obama care but i will still be able to cover people with pre-existing conditions and ten minutes after the debate he sent someone into the press room to say he really didn't mean that. >> reporter: now, ed gillespie, one of mitt romney's top advisers, suggested that the obama campaign was a sore loser. he suggested that they were acting like 7-year-olds who had lost a checkers game and had cleared the entire board off the table, don. >> yeah, no one -- none of them answer the question, at least i didn't hear b why the president didn't say what they're saying now in these interviews, why he didn't do it at the time, and that's the big que

mitt romney had the luxury of preparation endlessly for this debate. this is his full-time job as running for president. the president, you know, actually has a full-time job and that is running the country. he was rusty and it showed. mitt romney had had 20 debates this year. was very well prepared. and that showed too. but i do think president obama was able to do the contrast. i loved when he looked directly to the camera and talked to the american people about his plan in protecting the middle class versus mitt romney's but he certainly missed some opportunities. >> here is the thing. when it comes to issues, a lot of people are talking about what wasn't mentioned of the debate like romney's 47% comment, romney's taxes, bain capital. why didn't the president mention these things? >> that's exactly right, carol, and what i was about to say is that he absolutely missed some opportunities. i don't understand why he didn't bring up the 47%. i don't know understand why he didn't focus on bain and i don't understand why he did not go back very hard on mi

romney bent the truth in the debate but was never called out. and i asked if he thought the moderator had bungled the responsibility. >> i think the moderators job is to make sure that the things that have been said on the stage is congruent to the things said in the past. not to call them a liar. >> if he has facts about what someone said. but it is up to the president to defend himself. >> absolutely. absolutely. i'm not trying to say the president should not take responsibility for his awful performance. he should have. but some criticism to the moderator is also justified. >> don, what the liberals is doing is postdebate spinning. it's whining. there's no whining in politics. there's one person who should have challenged what mitt romney was saying. his name is president barack obama. and he didn't do it. everyone else doing it afterwards doesn't carry the same punch. and i agree with l.z. it ways bit of both. it was a lot of both. president obama was way off. and mitt romney was very much on his game. i don't remember where debate where's i

romney's strong performance during that debate, he's already looking at victory and they are sort of teasing their supporters saying, look, he thinks he's going to win this thing so donate now. they are pushing really hard. why are they doing this? because they need money in the key battleground states. the race is very close nationwide, but specifically in these battleground states like ohio, virginia, also in florida, those are states where a lot of money is being poured in for the ground operation and the wall-to-wall tv ads you see. they are pulling in a lot of money but a lot of money is going out the door. >> dan lothian, of course, on thursday we'll be watching the vice presidential debate as well. appreciate it, dan. >>> people are picking a president today in venezuela. there's the man trying to hold on to the job. president hugo chavez. he voted today in caracas. since chavez was first elected 13 years ago, today's contest was the strongest challenge to his role. latin america is certainly paying close attention to this important election. rafael, tell us about the man chal
